The following list of sites was compiled specifically to address breast cancer, but many of the sites contain information about other forms of cancer and links to general cancer and women's health resources. Note: the information here has been reviewed by a physician, but please talk to your own doctor about treatment information you find on the web.

About Breast Cancer
This site, part of the about.com network, provides a wide range of information on breast cancer, including risk factors and treatments, and includes news, a 24/7 chat room, a newsletter, local resources, events, and hundreds of links to related sites.

American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society offers a wide variety of information on different forms of cancer, upcoming programs and events, locations of national chapters, and recent cancer highlights. A volunteer advocacy organization that works to eliminate cancer through prevention, lifesaving treatment, and research, education, and direct service, ACS also operates a 24-hour hotline that provides prerecorded information on a range of topics.

BreastBiopsy.com
With honest information and diagrams on both cancerous and non-cancerous breast biopsies, this site is a wonderful resource for women facing a biopsy or just coming from a diagnosis. It also offers a space for women to share their stories.

Breast Cancer Action
This San Francisco-based activist organization's mission is to carry the voices of people affected by breast cancer to inspire and compel the changes necessary to end the breast cancer epidemic. See an article by Barbara A. Brenner entitled, "Fight the Corporate Interests That Stand in the Way of Ending This Epidemic."

This site is provided by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; it offers a range of resources on breast cancer prevention, detection, treatment, etc. You will also find a section on "celebrating survivors" of breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Options
This information is provided by the National Center for Policy Research for Women & Families in case you or someone you care about is facing a breast cancer diagnosis and want to learn more about your options. Most women who are newly diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer can choose a lumpectomy (which removes just the cancer and a small area around it) rather than a mastectomy (which removes the entire breast). A lumpectomy followed by radiation treatment is just as safe and effective as mastectomy, and usually not as physically and emotionally traumatic. And yet, many women undergo the more radical surgery -- sometimes without knowing their options.

CancerNet
A service of the National Cancer Institute, CancerNet includes news, publication factsheets, current clinical cancer information, and monthly updated information. NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health, the national scientific organization that conducts cutting-edge health research.

Hardin Meta Directory: Breast Cancer
The University of Iowa's reliable Hardin Meta Directory is a portal site to information on the web. Visit their section on breast cancer, which also has links to general information on women's health.

The Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer
Knowing that lesbians often receive poor quality health care due to fear and homophobia (among other factors), the Mautner Project provides direct services to lesbians, their partners and caregivers, educates and informs the lesbian community about cancer, educates the health care community about the special concerns of lesbians with cancer and their families, and advocates on lesbian health issues.

Oncolink
The site provides regularly updated cancer news, a list of Editors Oncolink Choice Awareness, journals and newsletters, clinical trials, global resources for cancer information, and frequently asked questions.

Plastic Surgery Information Service
Many women want information about breast reconstruction surgery following a masectomy or lumpectomy. Get reliable information from plastic surgery experts at this site, including implant options, what you can expect from surgery, recovery time, etc.

Y-Me National Breast Cancer Coalition
Y-ME's aim is to increase breast cancer awareness and ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone by providing information, empowerment and peer support. The site is offered in both Spanish and English, and features information on cancer in specific populations, a link to the Nexcure Cancer Profiler, peer support, and much more.

Annie Appleseed Project
The Annie Appleseed Project acts to spread news, views and information about access to alternative cancer therapies and to push the FDA, NCI and other organizations to focus on the area of complementary/alternative therapies.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program
This organization offers free mammograms and pap smear tests for women living in Texas, and valuable information for the rest of us.

Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia
This site features an active discussion forum for breast cancer survivors and will soon include findings from a Health Canada Study on "Creating Supportive Communities for Women with Breast Cancer."

The Breast Cancer Fund
TBCF's mission "is to eliminate deaths from breast cancer in our lifetime and make sure women living with breast cancer receive the best available care and support." Find information on the disease, a newsletter, advocacy, art & healing, resources and more on this beautifully designed site!

Burlington Breast Cancer Support Services Homepage
This site contains contact and background information on the Burlington Breast Cancer Group, founded by two women to provide information and support services for women with breast cancer.

Canadian Breast Cancer Network
The Canadian Breast Cancer Network is the national network and voice of breast cancer survivors in Canada, joined to provide communication, support and information, to promote education and awareness, and to ensure an independent voice for Canadians affected by breast cancer.

Cancer News on the Net
Edited by an M.D., Cancer News on the Net is an Internet publication for cancer patients and their families with links to many cancer resources on the Net, articles, and a listing of support groups.

Cancer Profiler (TM)
NexCura, Inc. offers a Cancer Profiler (TM) program, an" interactive, evidence-based decision support application" designed to help patients and physicians find the best treatment options for different types of cancer. Visit the site to generate a free report, with information on treatment options, side effects, and possible outcomes.

Community Breast Health Project
The CBHP newsletter can be found at this site along with practical advice, links to other sites for breast cancer information, and events.

Center for Disease Control
The CDC sponsors a National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program that strives to eliminate unnecessary cancer deaths through early detection.

Concert 2 Cure
A new initiative to raise money for the American Cancer Society and cancer research, Concert2Cure was founded by a cancer survivor and a group of volunteers. Learn about the project and how you can support it, and get information on concerts in your community.

Department of Radiology of Beth Israel
Affiliated with Harvard Medical School, this teaching and research center's site contains information on a large range of related topics, including breast imaging. This section provides a glossary of terms, biographical information on staff members, safety concerns, training programs and causes, a brief history of radiology, a patient questionnaire, and answers to frequently-asked questions.

Elaine Mackie Charitable Trust
Established in honor of Elaine Mackie, who died of breast cancer at the age of 39, this nonprofit organization provides various resources on breast cancer, including a bimonthly newsletter, reference materials on treatment, a question and answer forum, and scholarships.

Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE)
"A support and resource site for women at risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer," FORCE offers chat and discussion space, among other resources.

Halls' Risk Assessment Calculator
Dr. Steven B. Halls provides this online breast cancer risk assessment calculator, a quick way for a woman to determine how at-risk she might be. Halls based his test on the National Cancer Institute's more extensive and accurate test. If you determine from this online tool that you might be at risk, please consult your doctor for further, more detailed analysis.

The Isabella Tracey Memorial Breast Health Foundation
This site focuses on the advancement of infrared thermal imaging as a non-invasive diagnostic tool in the detection of breast cancer..

Johns Hopkins Breast Center

Myriad.com
Myriad is the company that developed genetic testing for the BRCA1 & 2 genes that have been found to cause breast cancer in some women. Get more information on BRCA 1& 2 in Ashkenazi Jewish women from FMF.

National Asian Women's Health Organization
This non-profit, community-based advocacy organization is committed to improving the health of Asian women and their families through research, education, leadership, and public policy programs that empower women and fight for broader social justice issues facing the entire population. Here, FMF has taken you to NAWHO's section on Breast and Cervical Cancer.

National Breast Cancer Centre (Australia)
This Australian organization's site provides a newsletter, statistics, resources, clinical trial guidelines, upcoming breast cancer news, women's stories, consumer viewpoints, and a strong list of links to breast cancer information.

National Breast Cancer Coalition
The National Breast Cancer Coalition is a grassroots effort to "eradicate breast cancer through action and advocacy" made up of more than 500 organizations and 60,000 individuals. The site offers information on the Coalition and membership, as well as valuable resources on legislative actions and political campaigns aimed at breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

The Patient Advocate
The Patient Advocate is a resource of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, undergone mastectomy, and are considering breast reconstruction.

Patient Centered Guides' Breast Cancer Center
This site, inspired by Musa Mayer's book, Holding Tight, Letting Go: Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer, provides invaluable information to an "underserved population." Find links to organization, books and updated articles. Check out the research resources and read about personal experiences from breast cancer patients.

Public Health Institute's Breast Cancer Answers Project
This clinical trials finder system matches breast cancer survivors to a comprehensive database of clinical trials in California based on stage of disease, prior treatment, and other specific disease criteria. The project aims to improve access to and awareness of new breast cancer treatments.

Roberts Review
Get up-to-the-minute news on cancer breakthroughs and treatments from this site, independently owned and not related to any labs, drug companies, research firms, etc.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute
The site includes treatment and diagnosis on breast, ovarian, skin, and bone cancers. It also has information on community service location, and three newsletters: Association For Cancer Education, Gilda Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer, and the NBCCS Support Network.

Texas Cancer Center
This site, written in accessible language, provides cancer patients with the latest research on non-radical-surgical treatments for cancer.

Texas Wings
This non-profit group provides breast cancer treatment to uninsured and underinsured patients in southern Texas. Visit their site for information on the program or to donate.

Women's Information Network Against Breast Cancer
Web of Care provides information, support and products for people caring for a loved one with cancer at home.
